Splatware is a new range of colourful plates and cups, produced by squishing different coloured clays together in a 60 ton hydraulic press. Every piece is different.
They are made using a durable high-firing Staffordshire stoneware clay, glazed and fired to vitrification temperatures. The finish is reminiscent of traditional agateware or nerikomi ceramics, where the patterning is not a glaze effect or transfer – the clay itself is coloured all the way through, giving a unique depth of colour & finish.
The range was successfully launched on Kickstarter, with over 800 backers from around the world pre-ordering products to put them into production.
